My Story

In February 2014, at just three months old, Morgan began her role as the official greeter at DOY Federal Credit Union. From the start, she embraced her job with excitement, prancing out to welcome members and their pets, always ready to brighten someone’s day. When she wasn’t at the credit union, Morgan loved the outdoors—chasing critters, swimming, laying in the sun, walking in parks, and especially playing in the snow.

In 2017, Morgan was trained and certified as a therapy dog for Akron Children’s Hospital’s Doggie Brigade. She passed her evaluation with a perfect score—the only dog her evaluator had ever seen do so. Morgan visited children at the hospital’s Mahoning campus for two years until the pandemic interrupted the program. When plexiglass barriers were introduced, Morgan's owner chose not to continue, as direct interaction was no longer possible—something that was central to Morgan’s purpose and joy.

Morgan remained a constant, comforting presence at DOY. She not only greeted members but also accompanied her owner to mortgage closings, spreading cheer wherever dogs were welcome. Her sweet demeanor and quirky habits—like bringing members a toy or sneaking between their legs for a back scratch—left lasting impressions. She never jumped, always polite yet full of personality, and had a special way of making people feel good just by being near her.

Featured in two Catholic Exponent articles and on WFMJ news, Morgan became a symbol of warmth and friendliness at DOY. She brought joy not just to the credit union, but also to neighbors, park-goers, and everyone who crossed her path.

Despite facing multiple health challenges—including knee surgeries in 2017, bladder surgery in 2023, and a terminal leukemia diagnosis in September 2024—Morgan showed remarkable strength and spirit. Even in her final weeks, she was cheerful and eager to see friends, never letting on that she was ill. Her final days were filled with love and visits with those she had touched throughout her life.

Morgan passed away peacefully in October 2024. Her absence has left a deep void in the hearts of those who knew her. She was more than a dog—she was a loyal companion, a therapy partner, a DOY team member, and a source of unconditional love. Her memory lives on in every smile she inspired and every heart she warmed.
